I recently attended the Grooming Expo 30th & 31st May, which was held at Mere Golf Resort. The expo is organised.
by Christies Direct a large supplier to the grooming industry and they bring the best Groomers from around the world to showcase their grooming skills, offer advice, tips and answer questions on a variety of topics.
It was a good opportunity to learn from some amazing groomers, speak to the professionals and network. It was also a chance to shop and after attending a seminar on scissors by Jonathan David who owns Lap of Luxury Dog Spa in Florida, I couldn’t resist getting another pair of Kenchis (which I have used everyday since and love).
Expert Dog Grooming demonstrations
I watched demonstrations by Judy Hudson US with a Standard Poodle, Jonathan David US grooming a Poochon (Poodle Bichon mix) and gorgeous Bearded Collie, Sue Zecco and Jay Scruggs from US Cockerpoo and Cocker Spaniel and Colin Taylor UK, with a West Highland Terrier and Miniature Schnauzer.
I enjoyed Julie Harris’s seminar on canine anatomy and how understanding the structure of your dog can assist when grooming it. Julie is part of the Master Groomers Guild, not only are her talks informative but thoroughly enjoyable as she has a fantastic sense of humour.
Liza Cox from Heavenlyz gave an introduction to cat grooming which was really useful as I find I am getting more enquiries for cat grooming as this side of the industry is rapidly growing.
Attending seminars like this not only helps me to continue my professional development in the grooming industry but it’s nice to spend time with people who are as passionate as myself about the job I do and the industry I work in.
